There they go again. McCain and Clinton both reversed themselves on ethanol. But guess which one gets the rap in the Washington Post? You guessed it. Here’s more from The Daily Howler:
“Have Hillary Clinton and John McCain reversed their stands on ethanol subsidies? Yes, both hopefuls have done just that —but so freakin’ what? The giant photo atop this report features Clinton alone —not McCain. And Shailagh Murray’s 23-paragraph “news report” devotes 21 paragraphs to Clinton —and only two to Saint John McCain. “
They’re just getting started, folks.

I found some powerful statements by indignant republicans about how werewolf-like it is to lie under oath.
”How can educators teach our children? How can the rule of law for every American be applied equally if we have two standards of justice in America–one for the powerful and the other for the rest of us?” – Chuck Hagel (R-NB)
“This nation sits at a crossroads. One direction points to the higher road of the rule of law. Sometimes hard, sometimes unpleasant, this path relies on truth, justice and the rigorous application of the principle that no man is above the law. Now, the other road is the path of least resistance. This is where we start making exceptions to our laws based on poll numbers and spin control. This is when we pitch the law completely overboard when the mood fits us, when we ignore the facts in order to cover up the truth. No man is above the law, and no man is below the law. That’s the principle that we all hold very dear in this country.” – Tom DeLay
“What is on trial here is the truth and the rule of law. . . ” Our failure to hold people accountable for “lying under oath and preventing the courts from administering equal justice under law, will cause a cancer to be present in our society for generations.” – James Sensenbrenner
“I will have no part in the creation of a constitutional double-standard to benefit” those in positions of power. “He is not above the law. If an ordinary citizen committed these crimes, he would go to jail.” – Bill Frist
Speaking about Scooter Libby?
Heavens no. That was when they wanted to nail Clinton on the same charges Libby was convicted on this week.

Some of Bush’s people are now arguing that there shouldn’t be an investigation of a “crime” until it’s been determined that a crime has been committed — but of course, there can be no such determination until there HAS been an investigation.
So their new position is that nothing should be investigated. – Total lawlessness.
Some of us predicted the right would totally flip out like this if Libby was convicted.

The Bushies are arguing that Libby shouldn’t have been investigated because it boils down to a “he-said-she-said” situation – exactly like the Lewinsky matter – oh wait. In the Lewinsky case, it was a GOOD thing to go after a reluctant witness despite the fact that it TOO was a matter of “he-said-she-said.” Because – well, because that was Clinton, and they were willing to do ANYTHING to destroy him.

It is simply amazing watching rightwingers now argue that LIbby shouldn’t have been prosecuted for perjury because ”there was no underlying crime.”
They don’t like to be reminded that Starr was never able to find any ”underlying crime” in the Whitewater matter. You all remember, of course, how rightwingers screamed that it was wrong for Starr to “badger” President Clinton; right?
